"The DCPD(Dicyclopentadiene) used to be extracted from coal tar, because of the small amount, it was un-noticed then. With the development of the petroleum industry, the DCPU can be extracted from the C5 fraction formed by petroleum cracking products.
It can not only reuse the C5 fraction waste but also has the properties of rich sources and low prices. The DCPD of different purity can apply to different applications. The viscosity of the DCPD monomer is very low (About 0.3Pa*s). It can be molded at low temperature and low pressure, and the mold can be filled in a short time. Therefore, it is often used in “Reaction Injection Molding”(RIM) polymerization to generate Poly-DCPD products. The method has the advantages of energy-saving, high material mixing efficiency, low cost, good quality of the product, and flexible product design. So far, it has been developed in a variety of applications, such as corrosion-resistant and high-temperature coatings, shipbuilding industry, automobile industry, optics, and electronic products, etc. Since the DCPD contains unsaturated double bonds in its molecular structure, it can also be added or polymerized in the chemical reactions, so it is often used in the production of petroleum resins, unsaturated polyesters, and cyclic olefin (co)-polymers. It is also used in the medical industry or the perfume precursors, epoxy resin curing agents, lubricant additives, flame retardants, etc."
