Eggshell Polypropylene Masterbatch

1/

Discarded eggshells are washed and calcined at 900°C to produce eggshell-derived biocalcium powder, whose main component is calcium oxide. The powder is melt-compounded with polypropylene (PP) at a concentration of 50% to produce a modified PP masterbatch (GEX-01P). The material has antibacterial properties, with inhibition rates exceeding 99.9% against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. It can also replace a proportion of petroleum-derived raw materials, thereby reducing the amount of plastic used. The modified PP masterbatch can be used in injection-moulding processes for applications such as food packaging, textiles and medical devices. It can also be used with other modified plastics. For example, a cosmetic container body can be injection-moulded from a blend of HDPE and modified LDPE masterbatch containing eggshell powder, while the cap can be made from modified PP masterbatch. The relevant materials have been tested against SGS EN 13430 requirements and for antibacterial performance and are suitable for recovery and recycling. more
