Waste mushroom bag recycled dry sawdust

According to data from the Agricultural Surplus Resources Information Platform, approximately 473 million mushroom cultivation bags are used in Taiwan each year. In the past, spent mushroom cultivation bags were generally sent to composting companies, where they underwent separation, drying, sun-drying and stockpiling. In areas without large-scale composting facilities, processing capacity often failed to keep pace with the volume of waste generated, causing waste-treatment costs to increase year after year. To produce this material, recovered shiitake mushroom cultivation bags are placed in a separator, which separates the sawdust from the outer plastic bags. The sawdust subsequently undergoes crushing, disintegration, sieving, thermal treatment and drying, reducing its moisture content from 80% to 20%. The recovered sawdust can be used to produce wood-pellet cat litter or as a raw material for organic fertilisers and growing media. It can also be used as poultry-house bedding to absorb chicken manure, keep poultry houses dry and reduce unpleasant odours. more
