Polylactic acid (PLA), which is assigned resin identification code 7, is produced by polymerising lactic acid obtained through the fermentation of plant starch. It is biodegradable. Standard PLA has a temperature resistance of approximately 50°C, which can be increased to 120°C through modification. Its good mechanical properties and processability make it commonly used as a filament for 3D printing. Adding biochar increases the hardness, ultraviolet (UV) resistance and dimensional stability of the finished product while reducing its carbon footprint by approximately 5%. more
