Acrylic resin is a commonly used chemical material traditionally produced from petrochemical-derived propylene. Bio-based acrylic resin coatings instead use bio-based acrylic monomers synthesised from plant-derived oils. These are combined with other acrylate or methacrylate monomers and processed through waterborne emulsion polymerisation to produce a water-based, bio-based acrylic coating. Testing by BETA indicates that the coating has a bio-based content exceeding 22%. Its formulation can be adjusted and functional additives incorporated according to customer requirements. It can be used for applications such as water-resistant and oil-resistant paper coatings as an alternative to conventional petrochemical-derived materials. For safety, the coating has been tested by SGS in accordance with FDA 21 CFR 176.170 and EN 71-3:2019+A1:2021 and complies with the relevant requirements.more
